Welcome to ICAN-CERD Independence Centre and Network

ICAN - Independence Centre and Network is a community based non-profit organization providing services and resources to people who have physical disabilities. Services include assessment & independence training, supportive housing in 2 sites, outreach and temporary accommodation. All services are offered in both official languages.

ICAN has come along way over the years. The organization has evolved and meet the demands of its consumers through hard work and determination. This is the abbreviated history of how ICAN has grown to an organization supporting approximately 150 clients at anytime in three support areas (outreach, supportive housing and independence training centre).

Incorporated in Sudbury, Ontario on May 23, 1979, by consumers, parents, professionals and businesses within the community to develop alternatives to institutionalization for adults with physical disabilities.

ICAN provides persons with physical disabilities opportunities for independence and community inclusion by providing individualized support and rehabilitation services.
ICAN will be in the forefront of a seamless network of services for persons with physical disabilities in a community that provides the choices and opportunities needed for inclusion.
A goal oriented and often time-limited process which enables individuals with impairments, activity limitations and participation restrictions to identify and reach their optimal physical, mental and/or social functioning level through a client-focused partnership with family, providers and the community.  Rehabilitation focuses on abilities and aims to facilitate independence and social integration.   -- World Health Organization
